What Your Clothes Really Say About You
At last! Hurrah! A book on clothes/style that REALLY reflects what I do for a living. So many people think my job is all about shopping with ladies who lunch, who have more money than sense, whooping it up, having a fabulous time playing dress up. No, no, no!! It’s not like that at all. Clothing is not frivolous. What we choose to wear, and how we wear it, says so much about who we are and where we are in our lives. It’s emotional. It’s psychological. My recent blogs (12th March onwards under Wardrobe heading) alluded to individual client dilemma’s and how they show up in the closet, along with a slice of their lives, both current and past.
‘You are What You Wear’ is a brand new book by Dr Jennifer Baumgartner, a clinical psychologist and the founder of InsideOut, a wardrobe consulting service. Never have I read a book so in tune with my own thoughts and practices. This is why I fervently believe that just having a style or colour consultation will never work long term. Emotions are very fickle and we need to embrace moods and feelings, despite what we think should suit us. Life changes, and so do we – ergo – so should our clothes.
If you want a really insightful read into the world of an image professional and how she truly helps her clients, then go get. You may also learn something useful.

Hi Sue
I am reading this at the moment and was going to email you as it sounded like you! A fascinating book.
Hi Clair, yes it is a fascinating part of what we do. The course I ran on Tuesday really highlighted these aspects too. Clothing is so much more important than a mere covering isn’t it?
