So, after talking to my wardrobe (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it) discussing which of my friends wanted to stay and which preferred to travel on, I came to a conclusion.

One Mile Style originated in Japan and doesn’t need too much in the way of explanation.

It concerns those clothes that are worn within a 1 mile radius of your home. In my case, pretty much 90% of my wardrobe as even prior to Covid, most of my work was online. My face to face activity was mostly carried out in other countries.

I also moved to a small market town where fashion doesn’t seem to be a huge priority. I’m not particularly bothered about what people think, but these lifestyle changes have toned down my style. Gone are the Vivienne Westwood clothes and the bright colours – see my full posting What To Do When Your Wardrobe Hates You

My new staples – jumpsuits, midi dresses, jeans, dungarees and sweaters.

Apart from feeling good, my goal is for someone to say, “You look great”, and mean it. Not with a subtext that secretly says “You’re trying too hard”, or “Going somewhere special?’, when I’m just pottering about town. I also don’t want to hear that well worn phrase “I love your outfit”. It kind of smacks of “Though I’d look better in it” or ‘Where did you buy it from, because I want it too.” I want to be noticed for me as an individual, not just what I’m wearing.

I have colleagues who can carry off a creatively, bold, dramatic kind of dressing and they look amazing.

For me though, One Mile Style is just tickety-boo.

I just look and feel like myself.
